I decided to create this post for anyone looking to feel more confident in front of the camera. It is a common concern I hear from my clients before our photography session. We all want to look amazing and authentic in our photographs, especially if you are an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, you are your company and it’s essential to show your face on your website, social media page and any marketing materials you may have. Here are some tips to get some awesome photographs of yourself. I know these will help you feel ready and more confident for your next session.
.) Relax …..don’t put so much pressure on yourself to look perfect. You want to be perceived as real, approachable and confident. You want your followers to feel something when they go to your Instagram page, website, etc. and see you. You want to attract your dream clients! Take a walk, journal your feelings, make sleep a priority, eat well, listen to your favorite music to unwind, etc.. All simple ways but when you feel good inside it does help to keep you more calm and positive which will translate to your photographs.
.) Have confidence in yourself. If this is something you struggle with then try channeling someone you admire. Write down a list of your strengths and all that you have accomplished. Look at this list everyday. Gather a bunch of inspirational quotes to look at (if this works for you), record a motivational message to yourself on your phone and listen to it when you need a boost and lastly, give yourself grace. I hear this phrase ‘give yourself grace’ time and time, especially for moms who try to do it all.
.) Wear clothing that not only feels like you but represents you and your brand. Do you have a t-shirt and jeans style or are you more buttoned up and have a classic style? Go with your gut and what feels true to you. Make sure your clothing is comfortable and fits your body well. Give yourself enough time to find your outfits. When you book a Personal Branding Session with me, you get a Style Guide with lots of tips on choosing what to wear to your session. I will guide you every step of the way!
.) Lastly, hire a professional photographer who can help you feel relaxed, hone in on the image you want to share with the world, and guide you in your wardrobe choices. As a photographer, I will help you feel prepared for your session through a questionnaire, phone consultation and collaborative planning to have a session that suits you and your business.
.) It bears repeating….relax. Take a deep breath, believe in yourself and be proud of your business. Whether you are starting out or are more established, do not get caught up in the comparison game. The best advice I received when starting out was not to compare yourself to someone else but compare yourself to who you were yesterday, a month or a year ago. This is a better representation of where you were and the progress you have made.
