As a mom myself I know it can be stressful going into a photography session. You worry if your child will behave, actually smile for the photos and hope that they can last the entire session without a meltdown. I want to ease some of those worries and let you know that I get it, I understand the worry and I am here to tell you that it will all work out!!
Here are some tips to ensure a wonderful, stress free session.
Tell your children about the session. Tell them where the session will be and what a photography session is. Children naturally like knowing what will happen next as it make them feel relaxed and more comfortable. You can share a photo of me with them so they will recognize me when they see me at the session.
Bribes never hurt. I tell parents that if a child knows there is a fun reward at the end of the session, the session typically goes a bit more smoother. Some bribes can be an extra trip to the playground, a favorite treat in the car after, go out for ice cream after the session, etc.
Try to be relaxed during the session. Your child will pick up on any nervous energy from you so it is best to just go with the flow. My family photography sessions are child led most of the time, as authentic photos truly capture your family’s dynamic best! I love being able to capture the in between moments.
Enjoy this time with your family and try to have fun! I know we all have expectations about what the session will be like but please try to have an open mind, connect with your children lovingly and this connection you have with your children will shine through. You are preserving memories with your children by having a photography session.
Please do not worry about what you should be doing during a session. I will guide you all throughout the whole thing, and tell you what you need to be doing. The key thing is to try to be relaxed. The first 5, 10 minutes are usually a bit awkward but you will be surprised at how fast you and your family warm up to being in front of the camera.
Make sure your children are dressed in comfortable, well-fitting clothing. The last thing anyone wants is to be pulling at what we are wearing.
Their bellies need to be full and bring along snacks and water. I know my children can get cranky when they are hungry and honestly, the same goes for adults at times!
There you have it! These tips will help you and your family have a more seamless, fun, stress free experience. I am here to answer any questions and ease your concerns. Please contact me if you are interested in a session.
